15 Things you don't want to overlook when
looking for a cosmetology school in Anchorage, Alaska!
1. Where will you work after you graduate? Call some of the salons/spas you're interested in and ask them which cosmetology school they'd recommend. Then ask them which cosmetology schools you SHOULDN'T go to! If you're going to work at a budget salon & do bubble cuts all day, it doesn't really matter. But if you want to work in a top end salon, ask them. 2. Is the cosmetology school you're looking at financially sound? Can they afford products/equipment, is their credit good enough to take credit cards? If they train you, will YOU have good credit? It's simple... call them up and say - "Do you take credit cards?" 3. Who are the cosmetology instructors? What kind of training do they have? Are they nice? If the person you're interviewing with is a butthead, how will they be as your instructor? Hmmmmmmm? Ask them where they've trained. Ask them what type of beauty industry jobs they've had. Where? When? Which salons have they worked in? Have they ever had any training outside of Anchorage? Outside of Alaska? Outside of the United States? 4. Do the cosmetology instructors receive new training each year or are they simply repeating what they learned years and years ago? True professional are always learning, always improving their skills. This is true of salon and spa professionals too. Their last class was... I know... they've been doing this 60 years! Have they had any national level training? International level training? Have they ever taught salon classes or been a platform artist themselves? If your cosmetology instructor hasn't accomplished very much how do you expect them to teach YOU how to accomplish great things? 5. Harvard Business School says that 35 people leave a business for each one that complains. 10 bad reviews equals 350 unhappy clients/students. Does the beauty school you're looking at have good reviews, bad reviews, mixed reviews? Take them seriously. 6. End up in a factory beauty school & you're just a part of the furniture! Are YOU here for THEM or are THEY here for YOU? 8. RUN! 9. What is the placement rate of the Anchorage, Alaska cosmetology school you're looking at? ALL cosmetology schools are required by the state to keep these stats and it's your right to know! Does the salon that hires you want that look? 11. Are there any hidden costs associated with attending this Anchorage, Alaska cosmetology school? Do you have to sell a shelf of products to graduate? Do you have to pay extra for the products you use? That's called "bait & switch!" 12. Does this Anchorage, Alaska cosmetology school offer any post-graduate support? Does this beauty school promote their graduates with job referrals or website listings? A GREAT beauty school helps you AFTER you graduate as well. 13. What kind of web presence does this Anchorage, Alaska cosmetology school have? What's this cosmetology schools website like? Is the website informative or does their website look like they couldn't be bothered by new technology? Is this website specifically vague enough that it seems that they're trying to get you in for a high pressure sales situation? 14. How does the person answering the phone sound when you call different cosmetology schools in Anchorage, Alaska? Are they helpful? Mean? Friendly? Disinterested? You're still in the "dating period". How will they treat you AFTER they have your money? 15. Does this Anchorage, Alaska cosmetology school offer any advanced training or do they just offer the basics? If you learn only the "basics" how will you compete with experienced people already in the beauty industry? ADVANCED TRAINING CENTER? Have you looked at ALL of the cosmetology schools in Anchorage, Alaska? If you ask get the answers to these questions you're probably on the way to choosing a great cosmetology school.
